AN/VIC-2(V)
VEHICULAR INTERCOM SYSTEM

The
AN/VIC-2(V) can be deployed in vehicles such as the M107, M108, M109, M110 Self
Propelled Artillery, M113 Armored Personnel Carriers, M60, M1 Abrams Tanks and
all vehicles where the AN/VIC-1 system is deployed. The U.S. Marines use the AN/VIC-2(V) in four
variants of the Light Armored Vehicles (LAV).
MAJOR ADVANTAGES
Significant
differences between the AN/VIC-1 system and the AN/VIC-2(V) system are the
AN/VIC-1 uses discrete components and mechanical audio relays, while the
AN/VIC-2(V) uses integrated circuits, solid-state audio switching, surface
mount technology, distributed audio amplifiers, plug-in modules, and a Tempest
power conditioning design. Each Control
Box also incorporates power filtering.
The AN/VIC-2(V) provides greatly improved rejection of alternator noise
and power line ripple. The intercom
response is tailored to remove acoustical turbo charger whine picked up by
microphone accessories.
SIMULTANEOUS RECEPTION OF RADIO MESSAGES AND INTERCOM
In addition
to the above, the AN/VIC-2(V) allows reception of radio messages and intercom
operation at the same time. The driver
can leave the audio accessory keyed on intercom without overriding radio
monitoring at the crew positions.
ACTIVE NOISE REDUCTION (ANR)
The
AN/VIC-2(V) system can be produced with or without ANR capability. This provides active ambient noise
cancellation which protects the crew member and provides increased speech
intelligibility. ANR supplied systems
are still compatible with non-ANR equipped headsets.
SIMPLE RETROFIT
Three
AN/VIC-1 boxes are replaced by AN/VIC-2(V) counter-parts housed in cases with
identical footprints. Since mounting and
cabling are identical, retrofit requires very little time.
AN/VIC-2(V) VHICULAR INTERCOM FUNCTIONAL UNITS

AM-7162/VIC-2(V) Master Control
Part Number 393750
Replaces
AN/VIC-1, AM-1780/VRC
The
AM-7162/VIC-2(V) Control Amplifier regulates and distributes power to the
individual crew boxes connected by the typical CX-4723/VRC vehicular cables.
The AM-7162/VIC-2(V) decodes the rotary switch selection from each crew box and
distributes the selected audio function or provides the selected R/T
interface. It provides the selected "low
level" (reduced signal radiation).
C-11133/VIC-2(V) Crew Control Box
Part Number 393764
Replaces
AN/VIC-1, C-2298/VRC
The
C-11133/VIC-2(V) crew box permits the operator to select either of two radios
for external communications, intercom only to talk with other crew members, or
open internal and external communications C (All). This box is typically installed at 3 to 4
crew positions per vehicle. Many systems
utilize only this type control box. Each
control box provides volume control for that station.

C-11134/VIC-2(V) Driver Control Box
Part Number 393831
Replaces
AN/VIC-1, C-2297/VRC
The
C-11135/VIC-2(V) crew box permits the operator, typically vehicle’s driver, to
operate 2 R/T units or talk with other crew members over the intercom. In addition to the capabilities of the
standard C-11133 crew box, the C-11134 provides a capability to connect to an
outside field phone. Usage is extremely limited due to the elimination of
outside phones on most vehicle types.
C-11135/VIC-2(V) Troop Commander Control Box
Part Number 393774
New
for AN/VIC-2(V), no AN/VIC-1 counterpart
The
C-11135/VIC-2(V) crew box allows the operator, typically the troop commander,
to individually operate a dedicated additional R/T unit and talk with other
crewmembers over the intercom. This box is also used in multi-position command
vehicles with numerous R/T units with the use of additional specialized
interface units.

NAPCO provides audio accessories (headsets,
microphones, speakers) that are connected to crew control boxes. Each crew members selects the radio to be
monitored (or none in INT ONLY position) at that station and can transmit over
that radio when their microphone is keyed.
In the ALL position, R/T 1 is the default radio. The Troop Commander can operate a dedicated
transmit-receive radio via the C-11135/VIC-2(V) control box. This radio is not connected to the intercom
net.
NAPCO also provides all the
required interconnect cabling and mounting hardware.
AN ANR equipped system can
accept either the standard CVC headset or the PICVC ANR headset.
