Its basic components are interface modules, each designed to convert communications traffic into its essential elements: receive and transmit audio, and accompanying control signals required to fully control the device that the module is interfacing. For example the CNRI-2000 interfaces with standard telephone lines. It converts 2-wire phone line audio into 4-wire send and receive audio, interprets call progress tones, provides a VOX output allowing the telephone call to talk, decodes DTMF tones coming in over the phone line, and sends out DTMF signals.
The CNRI is provided in a 19" wide Eurocard chassis which is provided with an AC power supply, DC/DC Converter and up to eight CNRI-1 or CNRI-2 Interconnect cards. The CNRI-1 Interconnect card is used for 4-wire applications, while the CNRI-2 Interconnect card enable POTs (Plain Old Telephone) connections.
